A hair and beauty salon has become the latest business to open, and thrive, at Nansledan.

Blush Hair and Beauty has taken over two neighbouring units on Stret Kosti Veur Woles at Nansledan, the Duchy of Cornwall’s extension to the seaside town of Newquay, offering a wide range of hair and beauty services.

One shop is dedicated to hairdressing services while the other provides beauty treatments and a new training venture, the Cornwall Hair and Beauty Academy.

Owner Kim Martin said: “We rented premises in Newquay town centre for 13 years and the opportunity to buy at Nansledan came up. This has been a positive move for us as Nansledan is such an up and coming area. We now have a strong dedicated team working in two lovely new buildings.

“We got the keys a few weeks into lockdown, which actually worked out well for us, as we used the time to prepare the two salons ready for opening.”

Blush Hair Salon opened its doors for the first time on July 4th.  Covid-19 restrictions meant the salon was initially limited on the treatments it could offer, but the team is now in full swing providing a full range of services in safe conditions.

Kim and her team were able to get their new offering, the Cornwall Hair and Beauty Academy, off the ground shortly after.

“We felt we could offer high level hair and beauty courses in Cornwall as there was a definite shortage of this type of training facility in the South West. We have a wide variety of courses and all of our beauty qualifications are accredited from the Beauty Guild,” added Kim.

“Nansledan has such a nice vibe and has a real community feel. Everyone who lives and works here is part of that community and looks out for one another. Our loyal regular customers missed us in lockdown and are very impressed with the new premises. We have also been excited to welcome many new customers and the business is now thriving thanks to the move to Nansledan.”

Ben Murphy, Estate Director at the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “Blush is a well-established Newquay business and we were delighted to see Kim and the team open across two new units offering a broader range of facilities here at Nansledan this summer. Despite the current coronavirus restrictions, it is great to see the move to Nansledan has helped Kim and her team grow the business and start a new venture and we wish them all the very best for the future.”

Blush joins a diverse range of businesses who now call Nansledan home. Most recently, these have included homewares store Teylu Trading and yoga studio and café Shiva.

Nansledan is being built on Duchy-owned land to the east of Newquay and will eventually comprise around 4,000 homes mixed with shops, offices, workshops, green spaces and a range of community facilities. It is being built by a consortium of South West building companies which includes Wainhomes, CG Fry & Son and Morrish Homes.
