Play Areas

Nansledan has two fantastic adventure playgrounds/play areas for younger children, as well as a new play area (including play equipment, scrambling/climbing areas, slides, basketball area and skate park/pump track) which is expected to be constructed behind Nansledan’s Primary School from late 2023.

Themed play areas

The original play strategy for Nansledan included a host of outdoor play areas with different themes to encourage different types of play.

Each play area is to take it’s name from the Cornish word for the type of play, such as Skrambla (scramble), Slynk (slide), Leska (swing), Diskhuda (discover), Ombreth (balance) and Lemmel (jump).

These themes were designed to encourage residents and visitors to move around the whole site and explore and experience different types of play, like an adventure playground trail. As people move through the trail, they’ll explore and interact more widely with their community, further strengthening bonds within the Nansledan community.

Progress

The first two play spaces are Skrambla and Leska, which are both now available to residents and visitors.

The nautical theme of each space reflects Nansledan’s proximity to the seaside.

The play area that is being designed behind the Primary School is Slynk, which will be suited to older children/teenagers as well, with climbing/scrambling obstacles, basketball area and skate park/pump track.

Each of the play areas has been designed by award-winning company, Cap.Co, who specialise in the design and construction of amazing outdoor spaces across the UK.
