Plastering apprentices in Cornwall have been learning the art of the trade thanks to one of Nansledan’s contractors. The apprentices at Truro and Penwith College have been practicing the very latest techniques thanks to A&P Williams Plastering, the rendering contractor working for Nansledan housebuilder CG Fry.

The Newquay-based business, which has been involved in Nansledan supplying external render for 12 years and internal dry lining for over seven, organised a workshop in modern plastering practice for Level 2 Plastering Apprentices at Truro and Penwith College with support from building materials supplier K Rend.

The apprentices had hands-on experience about different rendering products, including how to use a spraying machine to apply render and then smooth it off, a valuable technique that they can now add to their portfolios to boost their future employment prospects.

A&P Williams also organised a site visit to Nansledan to show the apprentices the different stages of construction and give them an insight into a large ongoing housing development.

Paul Williams, Managing Director at A&P Williams said:

“It’s really important that local employers like us work with colleges to make sure people coming into the trade have the right skills. Plastering is a craft, and getting hands-on experience with modern techniques like spray rendering makes a big difference. We’re proud to help apprentices learn on real sites so they’re ready for work and can keep the industry strong for the future.”
