Skol Nansledan has welcomed its first pupils after the brand new school opened its doors on September 9.

The 14-classroom school, which at capacity will cater for around 420 children, is built on Duchy of Cornwall land and has fast become a familiar landmark in the community.  It opens with two Reception classes, a Year 1, Year 2 and a mixed KS2 class.

Reception Class parent Natalie commented, “After months of driving past and screaming ‘my school!’ today was the big day. The school looks amazing and the teachers are all lovely. Most importantly my son absolutely loved his first day. He came out beaming and exclaimed ‘we did everything, it was awesome!'”

Year 3 parent Laura added: “It’s so lovely to see a school so at one with its surroundings, it really sits high and proud in the landscape.  We’ve spent weeks practising the school run walk and now the day has finally come for real.”

Head of School Vicky Dilnot said: “I feel so honoured to be Head of such an amazing looking school. I can’t quite believe we are finally hearing the sounds of children’s voices in our corridors.

“Skol Nansledan sits at the heart of a growing community and we’re committed to providing an outstanding school right from the start. Every child who started with us today will be immersed in an active and creative learning space and will be encouraged to develop as resilient and motivated learners. We’re all on an exciting journey and we’re all doing it together.”

Work on Skol Nansledan began in June last year and was built by Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group. It was designed by Francis Robert Architects and Alan Leather Associates.

The school is within walking and cycling distance of Nansledan and is connected to the community by a new footpath built by the Duchy of Cornwall. A formal opening celebration is planned for November.
