Nansledan resident Vanessa Leaver has made a film of her walks during the coronavirus lockdown which she hopes will help vulnerable people who are not able to access the countryside.
Vanessa is a first year photography student at Truro and Penwith College and moved with her family to Stret Euther Pendragon in Nansledan three days before lockdown began in March.
She has been filming her walks in and around Nansledan, including Pras Trewolek and its wildflower meadows, and other parts of Cornwall and has put together a short film that you can view below.
Vanessa said: “During the lockdown I have been able to walk from my home and enjoy beautiful landscapes, many on Duchy of Cornwall land. As many vulnerable people are not able to access the countryside I decided to make a film which I will dedicate to the NHS and key workers.
“I hope to distribute the film free to care homes, doctors’ surgeries, waiting rooms, nurses’ rest areas or any setting where it will be useful in providing a meditative breath of fresh air to those who choose to watch.”
Vanessa said nearly all the footage was filmed on lockdown walks from her home in Nansledan. There are also scenes from the beach at Porth where her family walks their dogs, ponies on Bodmin Moor from when lockdown was eased and people were able to drive for exercise, and scenes of dolphins that Vanessa filmed in Mounts Bay last year.
Vanessa has recently registered as a volunteer with Newquay Community Orchard where she hopes she can also do some photography and filmmaking when it reopens. She is also registered with the Royal Voluntary Service, which supports people in NHS hospitals and the local community.
