A pet store with a focus on dogs and natural feeding is now open and welcoming customers at Nansledan.

Pooches Pet Care, is run by qualified dog trainer Sharon North and dog groomer Jackie Seymour.

The business opened its doors just before the latest coronavirus lockdown but is allowed to trade as an essential service. It is currently operating reduced hours and offering local deliveries.

Sharon and Jackie, who are both advocates of raw feeding for dogs, first set up their pet business in Newquay around six years ago. They decided to relocate their store to Nansledan last year while maintaining their dog grooming salon in nearby Prow Park.

Sharon said: “We wanted to have a renewed focus on natural feeding and Nansledan seemed the perfect place to do this. While we are still finding our feet, we are working with local suppliers to offer our customers more choice. As much as we are able, we want to offer high-end, naturally produced products with recycled packaging.

“While we aren’t able to open full-time hours at the moment, we want to help our customers, so we are offering deliveries where we can.

“Once we are able, we want to run open days here, so people can learn more about natural and raw feeding, and gain a greater understanding of it.”

Sharon added: “Although our main focus is the pet shop, we also have a dog grooming salon at nearby Prow Park called Pooches Grooming Parlour, which, due to COVID-19 restrictions, is currently closed except for welfare issues.”

Sharon and Jackie have seen Nansledan grow over the years, as they both walk their own dogs nearby, and have always been interested in moving their business to the development.

Jackie added: “We looked at moving here a while ago, but it wasn’t the right time for us. However in 2020, it felt right for us to make the move.

“We love it here. The atmosphere is wonderful and it feels right for what we are trying to achieve with our business. It’s so relaxed and all the businesses are really friendly and helpful, we spend a lot of time at Shiva Café too.

“Everything is here is fresh and new, our unit is really lovely and we are so glad to be here. We are encouraging all of our customers to let us know if there is something specific they want for their pet. The likelihood is we either already have it in stock or can order it for you.”

Ben Murphy, Estate Director at the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “We’re delighted to see Sharon and Jackie settling in so well and offering an essential service helping keep the pets of Nansledan healthy during this latest lockdown. I am sure Pooches Pet Care will be embraced by pet owners across the community.”

Pooches Pet Care joins a wide range of diverse businesses already operating at Nansledan. These include most recent arrivals wine shop and deli, The Old Garage, and Blush Hair and Beauty.
