Home Nansledan, owned by Aaron Smith and Matt Drohan, has become the latest business to open in Nansledan.
The florist and home accessories shop sells attractive and unusual pieces to complete a home alongside beautiful floral arrangements.
Aaron said: “The residents have been really supportive, and even though we only opened in December we already have regulars.”
Aaron and Matt both hail from South Staffordshire but fell in love with Nansledan on a visit to Cornwall. They moved into their house at the development, which is walking distance from their new shop, about a year ago.
Aaron said: “My grandparents lived in Truro for 25 years and we have holidayed on the north coast of Cornwall for years. We had a plan to move to Cornwall in about 10 years’ time, but we drove past Nansledan and decided to have a look around. We stood on the concrete pad on what would become our house and decided there and then to buy it.”
Sustainability is important to Matt and Aaron, so they have started working with three Cornish suppliers for their flowers and expect to be 70% locally-sourced by the summer. They are also looking to hold flower arranging classes in the months ahead as well as partnering with other businesses at Nansledan.
Matt said: “We really like the ethos of Nansledan, the sustainability side is really important to us. We are completely plastic-free when it comes to our flowers, we even use paper tape.
“We love Nansledan – there is such a community feel here.”
Matt and Aaron are such advocates of Nansledan that they have encouraged Matt’s parents to make the move.
Matt added: “My mum spent a lot of timing watching A Place in the Sun and I said instead of watching it why don’t you live it? They moved last April and enjoy living here just as much as we do.”
Ben Murphy, Estates Director for the Duchy of Cornwall, added: “It is fantastic to see how quickly Matt and Aaron settled into the Nansledan community and we wish them every success with Home Nansledan, their wonderful florist and home accessories store.”
