A new business with a real focus on sustainability and traceability has opened at Nansledan.
Annaotherthing is a combination of two Cornish brands, The Cornish Man Cave and The Pure Haven, created by Anna Klimek (pictured). The recently opened shop sells a wide range of natural handmade toiletries all made on site by Anna.
Anna’s business began 18 months ago, when she rediscovered ingredients she had bought for her daughter to make bath bombs a couple of years before. She then developed a range of soaps, gels and oils for men and women, all derived from plant-based ingredients.
Anna said: “I noticed that men didn’t have that many choices when it came to soaps and moisturisers, particularly in the South West. They would mainly just have one option tagged on the end of websites aimed at women. That was how The Cornish Man Cave was born, and is the sister brand to The Pure Haven, providing products for women.
“I needed somewhere to make and sell my products and give my brands a home. Annaotherthing is an old nickname for me, and is memorable and quirky, perfect for my shop.”
Anna has passion for traceability – she knows the source of every ingredient in every product she makes. A large range of her products, including oils and shower gels, are refillable, meaning that packaging is not duplicated. She also sells plastic-free brushes and plant-based sponges, which are completely biodegradable.
Anna said: “I am so passionate about traceability and sustainability. I also stock and promote other local makers and crafters here in my shop – particularly people I have met at fairs and have become my friends.”
Anna is also an advocate of Nansledan, where she has lived with her family for two years. Prior to opening her shop she ran a dog walking business for residents of the community.
Anna’s new premises are just 105 steps from her front door, at Chi Tennyson on Stret Myghtern Arthur, next to Ladyvale Bakery and Café, which opened in July. Anna’s is the 10th business to open at Nansledan, reflecting the Duchy of Cornwall’s ethos to create a mixed community where people can live and work.
Anna added: “There is a great community here, so much is happening. There is such a diverse mix of people, it’s a positive place to live and work. The businesses all support each other, enabling us all move forward and create.”
