Nansledan’s Kew an Lergh development has become a hub of business activity having welcomed several new occupants over the summer.
A yoga studio, two vintage clothing shops and an accountancy firm now call Kew an Lergh home, with a new café/deli coming soon.
These businesses are joining Nansledan’s nursery school, which opened in April, and two established media companies that have located to the three Arts and Crafts style buildings around a central courtyard.
The latest occupants say they are looking forward to being part of Nansledan’s growing community.
“We love Nansledan and we’ve wanted to be there for a long time,” said Samantha Linggard from Linggard and Thomas accountants. She explained that the firm she runs with business partner Lucy Thomas had outgrown its premises in Treloggan Lane, Newquay, and the pair had been waiting for the chance to relocate to Nansledan.
“It’s all finally come together at the right time and we’re looking forward to welcoming our clients into a bigger, brighter office that we have helped to design,” said Samantha.
Issey Knight set up her yoga business in Wesley Yard, Newquay, just over four years ago. She also launched a clothing range last year. She says moving to Nansledan is the perfect fit for her growing brand. “Sustainability is what my business is all about,” said Issey. “There is a lot for support for small businesses here and you feel as though they want you to succeed. This is the place to be.”
One of the other arrivals to Kew an Lergh is Sabzi, an award-winning deli and kitchen with existing branches in Truro and Falmouth. Owner and chef Kate Attlee announced over the summer she would be expanding her business to Padstow and Nansledan this year. “The long-term goals of Nansledan and its focus on community centred business really fits with Sabzi’s commitment to its local customers,” said Kate, who added that the deli, with its emphasis on sustainability and seasonal food, will be up and running in Nansledan this year. She added: “This is an absolutely wonderful opportunity for us.”
Vintage inspired clothing store, Love of Lemons, has also just relocated to Kew an Lergh. Owner Bex Osman opened her first shop in Nansledan’s Chi Esels in October 2021. The ‘uniquely curated’ mix of women’s, men’s and unisex clothing and accessories, alongside sustainable brands, has gone from strength to strength and the decision was made to upscale and move. Love of Lemons now has a sister company, Love of Vintage, with both stores based in Kew an Lergh. Bex said: “I love Nansledan. I believe in it and where it’s going and the local people here have supported me so much. It’s given me such a great steppingstone and allowed me to be where I am now.”
The Kew an Lergh project has been a remarkable joint effort, with the Duchy of Cornwall development team, members of the construction team, architects and planners working closely with the people who will be using the buildings day-to-day.
The courtyard was designed by Nansledan’s masterplanning architects, ADAM Architecture, with working drawings by ALA Architects in Charlestown. Locally significant details have been added, such as the Duchy of Cornwall crest made from lead in the dormer of the nursery building. In addition, an historic bell made in Bodmin almost 400 years ago has taken pride of place in the bell tower of the nursery.
