The Duchy of Cornwall’s Kew An Lergh development in Nansledan has been shortlisted for a national award.
The prestigious RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) UK Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies across the UK.
Kew An Lergh has been shortlisted in the Commercial Development category having been put forward by Nansledan’s masterplanning architects ADAM Architecture and will now go forward to the Grand Final in London on 4th October.
Kew An Lergh, which is Cornish for Way Close, is a cluster of three Arts and Crafts style buildings and is the first standalone commercial development at Nansledan built directly by the Duchy of Cornwall.
It includes a new nursery school and two neighbouring two and three storey buildings housing shops and offices built around a central landscaped square. It was designed by ADAM Architecture, with working drawings by ALA Architects in Charlestown.
Sam Kirkness, Development Manager for the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “Kew An Lergh has been a great success and has quickly become a thriving commercial centre in the heart of the Nansledan community.
“To be among just a handful of commercial projects shortlisted for an RICS award nationwide is a tremendous achievement and speaks volumes for the collaboration between the Duchy of Cornwall’s development team, the construction team, architects, planners and occupiers. We’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed for the Grand Final later this year.”
Kew An Lergh was built by the same team who constructed Nansledan’s primary school, Skol Nansledan, which opened in 2019 and won a coveted Social Impact Award from the RICS in 2020.
The buildings include Cornish granite and renewable heating via a ground source heat pump. Other touches include clay tiles made by the nursery school children to decorate the outside of the building, a Duchy of Cornwall crest made of lead which adorns one of the dormers, and an historic bell made in Bodmin almost 400 years ago which has taken pride of place in the nursery’s bell tower.
Kew An Lergh is home to Naturally Learning, a nursery catering for children up to age five which opened in April last year. Also on site are vintage clothing store Love of Lemons, café and deli Sabzi, The Loft yoga studio, Linggard and Thomas Accountants, Solve Web Media, television production company Beagle Media, and most recently Jackson’s wine bar.
