Newquay Community Orchard has announced that its spring fayre will once again receive sponsorship from the Duchy of Cornwall and the consortium of South West builders who are constructing Nansledan.

The orchard’s annual spring fayre will be held on 18th May and the organisation has received £2,000 from the Duchy of Cornwall, CG Fry & Son, Wainhomes and Morrish Builders.

The fayre will be open from 11am to 3pm and entry will be free to the public. The event promises to be a day of family-friendly fun and a showcase for the best producers and makers from Newquay and the surrounding area. There will be a farmers’ market, craft stalls, a feast of local food and workshops, games and music.

Luke Berkeley, Managing Director of Newquay Community Orchard, said: “We would like to thank the Nansledan consortium for their generous sponsorship of the fayre, which is a true highlight in the Newquay Community Orchard calendar. We are looking forward to welcoming people from across Newquay and the surrounding area for an exciting day filled with local produce, fun activities and entertainment.”

The community orchard, which is situated on seven acres of land gifted by the Duchy on the western edge of Nansledan, is encouraging people to leave their cars at home and use public transport, walk or cycle to get to the fayre. For a small donation, the Newquay Lions Club will be offering a shuttle service back to the town centre.

Ben Murphy, Estate Director at the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Newquay Community Orchard’s spring fayre and we are looking forward to welcoming local vendors and producers to the Nansledan community. The orchard provides education and skills to local people as well as promoting and enabling sustainable lifestyles, which is at the heart of the philosophy of Nansledan.”

With prominent local vendors and food and drink providers, including B Skincare, The Cornish Larder, Lou’s Reused, Sprout Health Foods and the Atlantic Brewery, already confirmed to take part, the fayre is already shaping up to be one of the best yet.

Workshops and entertainment including music from Oll and Gwella and a yoga class from Newquay-based Oceanflow Yoga, have already been lined up with more to be announced in the coming weeks and months.

Steve Morrish, Managing Director of Morrish Builders, said: “Placing the community at the heart of our developments is one of Morrish Builders’ core values. Following the success of last year’s event, we are delighted to support the Newquay Community Orchard spring fayre again this year.”

Philip Fry, Managing Director at CG Fry & Son, added: “It is great to see this event happening for another year, it is a fantastic initiative helping to bring the community together. As one of the developers of Nansledan, the adjoining new community, we are very happy to be able to support this event.”

Newquay Community Orchard is a community-led project that has not only established a multi-functional green space where people of all walks of life can come together to work, rest and play, but provides support to the local community through events, horticultural therapy and job creation.

Alex Hugo, Managing Director of Wainhomes South West, said: “As a company we are delighted to be involved with sponsoring these local events, whilst we are sold out on our current phase, we are very much looking forward to releasing our next phase within Nansledan and continuing to support local activities.”

Nansledan is being developed on Duchy-owned land to the east of Newquay and will eventually comprise around 4,000 homes mixed with retail, offices, workshops, green spaces and a range of community facilities. To date 257 homes have been occupied, of which 190 are open market homes and 67 are affordable.
