Food culture
Nansledan is designed to encourage people to make more sustainable food choices where they can. This might be by buying local produce or even growing your own.
Food culture
Encouraging more sustainable food production helps the environment and promotes local employment, while celebrating Cornwall’s diverse food and drink culture.
That’s why Nansledan includes community allotments, allotment gardens, orchards and ‘edible’ streets planted with herbs and fruit trees.
At neighbouring Quintrell Downs, the Duchy of Cornwall gifted three acres of land and provided landscaping and sheds to create 30 community allotments.
The development of Newquay Community Orchard was financed in part by the Duchy of Cornwall and has been in operation since 2015, delivering an award-winning community space with volunteering and education programmes at its core. In 2022 it was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a local voluntary group can receive.
