Newquay Community Orchard’s annual spring fayre is just days away and will once again showcase some of the best producers and makers from Newquay and the surrounding area.
The fayre, now in its third year, will be held on 18th May from 11am to 3pm with free entry to the public. Visitors can expect a huge array of local vendors, stalls and food and drink as well as a farmers’ market and entertainment throughout the day.
Just some of the local vendors who are due to be at this year’s spring fayre include People & Gardens, Cows and Sows, Atlantic Brewery, The Cornish Larder, Tide Flowers, Super Tube Design, Sprout Health Foods and B Skincare.
Urban Playground, a performance-parkour company, will be performing its show Zoo Humans in the amphitheatre at the Newquay Community Orchard. This performance will mark the start of the development of the space into a new 600-seat outdoor arts and performance venue for Newquay.
The Vinyl Collective and male voice choir Oll an Gwella will also be performing at the fayre, alongside storytelling with Nathan Mansbridge, and children’s activities with Matt Tolson and Treehouse Newquay in the Den.
Luke Berkeley, Managing Director of Newquay Community Orchard, said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming visitors to the orchard for this year’s spring fayre. We hope that all those that visit us will not only be able to see and buy produce created by local vendors but to experience the work we do here at Newquay Community Orchard.
“I can’t wait to welcome visitors and vendors alike to the orchard for a great day out for all the family.”
As well as aiming to help families to shop in a plastic-free environment, Newquay Community Orchard is encouraging people to leave their cars at home and come to the fayre by foot, by bike or via public transport.
The community orchard is situated on seven acres of land gifted by the Duchy of Cornwall on the western edge of Nansledan. The fayre has once again been sponsored by the Duchy and the consortium of South West builders who are constructing Nansledan, CG Fry and Son, Wainhomes and Morrish Builders.
Newquay Community Orchard is a community-led project that has not only established a multi-functional green space where people of all walks of life can come together to work, rest and play, but provides support to the local community through events, horticultural therapy and job creation.
Ben Murphy, Estate Director at the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “We are thrilled to once again be supporting the Newquay Community Orchard in their annual spring fayre, and we are looking forward to seeing producers and local people come together at Nansledan.
“It is great to see the fayre promoting a sustainable lifestyle, which is at the heart of the philosophy of Nansledan.”
