Newquay Community Orchard will be staging its annual spring fayre on Sunday 29th April.
Open from 11am to 3pm, the event is completely free to the public. Sure to be a fun-filled day, visitors can expect free activities, workshops, demonstrations, a farmer’s market, delicious food, music and more.
The community orchard, which is situated on the seven acres of land gifted by the Duchy of Cornwall on the western edge of Nansledan, is encouraging local visitors to leave their cars at home and walk in from Newquay town centre.
A free foraging art trail from the town centre to the orchard will take place on the day, led by expert forager Emma Gunn from Never Mind the Burdocks, who will explore hedgerows for edibles and hidden art treasures. This will need to be booked in advance.
The Newquay Lions Club will be running a shuttle service back to the town centre for a small donation.
Luke Berkeley, Managing Director of Newquay Community Orchard, said: “We are so pleased to welcome so many new and exciting vendors and exhibitors to this year’s spring fayre. I can’t wait to see local people and visitors from across the county come to learn a bit more about the orchard and have a fun day out as well.”
The fayre is being funded by FEAST Cornwall, The Prince’s Countryside Trust alongside the Duchy of Cornwall and the consortium of South West building companies who are constructing Nansledan: CG Fry & Son, Wainhomes and Morrish Builders.
Activities will include workshops, forest school, woodturning demonstrations and a craft fayre with local produce vendors.
There will also be a talk from Colette Beckham, from Plastic Free Newquay, and from John Harris, Head Gardener of Tresillian Estate.
Newquay Community Orchard is a community-led project that has not only established a multi-function green space where people of all walks of life can come together to work, rest and play, but provides mental health therapy, educational services to local schools and residents, and works to support the local community through events, rehabilitation and job creation.

Nansledan is an extension to Newquay being built on mainly Duchy-owned land to the east of the town and will eventually comprise some 4,000 new homes, a similar number of jobs, and a range of community facilities.
